“An adorable, aggravating blue heeler went on a journey last weekend that could have been part of a “Homeward Bound” sequel,” according to KXAN-TV’s Billy Gates .
You see, Axle the blue heeler was supposed to be spending time with his grandmother in Spicewood, Texas, while his owner Leslie Robinson went out of town with her fiance. But he clearly had other plans on his weekend agenda.
He instead opted to take himself on an adventure.

This wasn’t just any adventure though, this was an estimated 50-mile, two-day journey that included a stint in Lake Travis.
Axle escaped his grandmother’s backyard Friday, Gates reported for KXAN, and took a swim across Lake Travis before being seen in Lago Vista. From there, he was seen in Jonestown, which is the opposite direction from his home, obviously instilling fear inside his mother who thought her fur baby wasn’t going to know his way back.
Robinson said she posted “on every Facebook I could think of” and even spent the entire day Saturday and following morning, with her friends and family, searching for Axle.

“I’m torn between being impressed that he found his way home, and being annoyed that he left grandma’s in the first place,” Robinson told Gates.
It’s a good thing Axle is back home where he belongs, but lets hope he doesn’t have any plans for a third installment to the “Homeward Bound” franchise.
