Louisa Gregson 12:16, 10 MAR 2021 Updated 21:07, 10 MAR 2021 News Police at the scene of ‘disturbance’ in Failsworth on Monday (Image: Supplied) Residents in Failsworth have spoken of their shock after a gang of youths reportedly chased a man down their street before pulling him from his car and assaulting him.
The incident, which happened at around 9.15pm on Monday, March 8 2021, on Albert Gardens, Failsworth left a 22-year-old male with head and leg injuries.
One resident said he had watched the drama unfold from a bedroom window and likened to something he had watched on television.
He told The Manchester Evening News: “We watched it from the upstairs window.
“There were three cars right in front of you, a red Golf, a BMW and an Audi.
“I saw the BMW run into the back of the red Golf. There was a big bang and then a popping noise like fireworks and it was the windows being put through with some implement or other.
“There were about half a dozen youths all dressed in black.
“They were running around like they were chasing each other. They got hold of one youth and leathered him.
(Image: Supplied) “One youth grabbed him and threw him into the back of the Audi and then reversed up the road at speed.
“The Audi came back about five minutes later and the driver was looking into the Golf for something and took some phones.
“I could see there were little packets all over the floor.
“The whole street was out watching it.
“This is a quiet cul-de-sac and nothing like this ever happens.
“You see it on the TV but when it happens on your street, in real life, it is shocking.”
Another resident said her husband alerted her to the incident by phoning her from another room in their house.
She said: “My husband phoned me from upstairs and said people were standing by my son's van.
(Image: Supplied) “He said he had seen a red car speed down the street, then an Audi and another car. And then whoever was driving the Audi pulled a guy out of the red car and started knocking him about somewhat.
“We went out to see if there was any damage to my son's van but then we went back inside as we were a bit scared.
“A few minutes later the Audi came back and we heard a guy shouting: “Don't worry, I'm with them.”
“Then the police arrived and walked down the street looking to see if anyone had CCTV.
“There were about 12 neighbours all out of their houses at the top of the street.
“I have lived here 27 years and there has been nothing like this.”

“There was a lot of crashing and it sounded like bins being moved.
“I went to the front door and there was a gang of lads and a big fight going on.”
The woman said she saw hammers and knives, but GMP said they were unable to confirm whether any weapons were used in the incident.
“They smashed the side window of a red car, pulled him out and beat him up”, she added.
“Then one of the lads jumped over my gate and ran through my back garden.
“I was scared as I had family inside.
“It was all so shocking and a scary experience.”
A couple said they do not believe the youths were from the area.
One said: “We saw two cars coming up and one smacked into the other.
(Image: Failsworth Street Patrol) “It seemed to be someone being chased and they perhaps didn't realise it was a dead end.
“I doubt they were local.
“The kind of violence that went on was very shocking and very worrying.
“This is a quiet cul-de-sac.”
A father who lived further down the street from where the incident took place said he is worried about crime in the area.
He said: “We first heard a bang and a load of lads shouting so we came to the front door.
“There was a lot of screaming and shouting.
“We heard the driver of a red Golf was dragged out and beaten up with something like a crow bar and then thrown into an Audi.
“The Audi sped off and smashed into my next door neighbour's Polo.
“I have a two year old and I am worried.”
At the time of the incident a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 9.15pm on Monday, March 8, police were called to a disturbance on Albert Gardens, Failsworth.
“Officers attended and established there had been a road traffic collision, and a 22-year-old man had subsequently been assaulted, but had fled the scene prior to the police arriving.
“He later self-presented at hospital, suffering injuries to his head and leg.
“No arrests have been made, and enquiries are ongoing.”
